Guided Review

Review order, not file order.

Synclar refuses to review your code for you. It walks you through a pull request in the order it should be understood — the entry point first, then the logic, the side effects, and the riskiest changes last.

Built for

A tech lead responsible for what a team of five to twenty developers merges — reviewing every pull request themselves, every day, while the team ships heavily with AI coding tools.

  1. Entry point
  2. Business logic
  3. Side effects
  4. Persistence changes
  5. Tests
  6. Risk

A reading path, not a list of files.

A Guided Review turns a pull request into an order: the entry point first, then the main business logic, the side effects, the persistence changes, the relevant tests, and last, the riskiest behaviour changes.

How a Guided Review moves

01

Entry point first

Start where the pull request starts: the function or route that triggers everything else.

02

Logic, side effects, persistence

Then the business logic, what it changes elsewhere, and what it writes to storage.

03

Tests and risk, last

Finally the tests that cover it, and the riskiest behaviour changes — the parts most worth a second look.

What a Guided Review looks like

Sample
1auth/session.ts
2auth/session.service.ts
3auth/session.test.ts

Step 2 — Business logic

function rotateSessionToken(session: Session) {
  session.token = signToken(session.userId)
  session.rotatedAt = Date.now()
  return session
}

This rotates the session token whenever a password changes, but does not revoke the old token first.

Risk

The previous token stays valid until it expires on its own.

Plain-English explanations

What a function does, said in words, next to the code itself.

Side effects called out

What else changes when this runs, and what it writes to storage.

Risk flagged last

The riskiest behaviour change is named once the rest is understood.

Priced per seat. Never per pull request.

Synclar is sold as seat-based monthly subscriptions through hosted checkout — never usage-based, so nobody hesitates to open an explanation to understand a function.

Guided Reviews of public pull requests are free for everyone. Private pull requests get three Guided Reviews a month at no cost.
